The competition Start:up Slovenia for the Slovenian Startup of the Year 2018 award, including the startup grant P2 for innovative startup companies in the amount of 54,000€, will be presented at Forum 100% Start:up on Monday, 5 March, in Technology Park Ljubljana. We collaborated with the Slovene Enterprise Fund and the startup community to design the event in such a way that you will learn the details of all the key current programmes for the support, financing, mentorship and international networking of startup companies, including this year’s PODIM Conference and hot ICO crowdsale financing. Besides this, we will also carry out a series of five roadshow events from 6 to 12 March in Maribor, Nova Gorica, Celje, Velenje, and Kranj. We advise you to take your calendars and already mark the date for applying to the pre-selection process for the competition Start:up Slovenia with P2, namely 20 March 2018. And we’ll see you on 5 March in Technology Park Ljubljana, where the official programme will be followed by a Start:up Slovenia party to hang out with good music, food, and drinks.
Link between P2 financing and competition Start:up Slovenia
The startup grant P2 in the amount of 54,000 EUR, offered by the Slovene Enterprise Fund (SEF) to young high-tech companies with potential for rapid growth and creation of new jobs, is already traditionally connected to the competition Start:up Slovenia. For the competition, we choose the best startups amongst those contending for P2, and place them in the finals of the esteemed Slovenian Startup of the Year award as “young challengers”. This year, the award will be given out for the eleventh year in a row at PODIM, the biggest startup conference in the Alps-Adriatic region, taking place in Maribor on 15 and 16 May.
On public and private support, PODIM, corporate programmes, and ICO projects
The event Forum 100% Start:up will give you all the information on how to apply for the P2 tender, on what the tender conditions and criteria are, and on the process of pre-selection, which ends with the DEMO Day where the best teams pitch. The event has been richly upgraded this year, in collaboration with all most active stakeholders of the Slovenian startup ecosystem, and it now has four content segments:
- How can you wisely choose the support for your startup? Presentation of the key public and private support programmes and tenders, including Slovene Enterprise Fund, Technology Park Ljubljana, Venture Factory, ABC Accelerator, Business Angels of Slovenia Club, and CEED Slovenia.
- PODIM Conference, the biggest and most influential startup event of the year, which gives the most promising startups from Slovenia and the region the opportunity for intense 1:1 networking with investors and corporation representatives, and rich prizes such as an all-inclusive programme in one of the global startup hubs (Silicon Valley, USA; Boston, USA; London, GB; Hangzhou, China) or a tailored programme in collaboration with a PODIM corporate partner. In this segment, Slovenian corporations such as Kolektor, Iskratel, Zavarovalnica Sava, Telekom Slovenije, Pošta Slovenije and Petrol will present their activities of connecting with startups.
- ICO-mania: between heaven and hell, including the lecture “ICO from A to Z” by the Cofound.it accelerator and a discussion with startups OriginTrails, InsurPal, Sportify and Datafun, which have collected more than 10 million euros in startup capital with help of ICO.
- Start:up Slovenia party, where the Slovenian startup community can hang out with good music, food, and drinks.
Timetable of the roadshow events
Right after Forum 100% Startup, which plays the role of a central national event, we will carry out a series of five local roadshow events in Maribor, Nova Gorica, Celje, Velenje and Kranj from 6 to 12 March, where we will be able to pay closer attention to teams from local startup communities and their questions. The events will take place in the following order:

- Nova Gorica, Primorska Technology Park, 7 March at 16.00h
- Celje, Savinja Region Incubator, 8 March at 16.15h
- Velenje, Saša incubator, 9 March at 12.00h
- Kranj, RC IKT, 12 March at 13.00h
