Seattle and Imagine Cup are expecting you!

Day 13. January 2014 posted Stanislava Vabšek

There’s only time until January 20th to apply to the local selection of this year’s Imagine Cup competition. An unforgettable event, new knowledge, experience, acquaintances and references, a lot of fun and attractive awards, are just some of the reasons why you should participate in the largest world student competition.

Awards in the value of a million dollars, an unforgettable experience at the world finals in Seattle and the possibility of a fast career breakthrough are additional reasons why it is worth it to think about participating at the largest student technological competition in the world – Imagine Cup!

Last year, the Slovenian team ADORA from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Maribor went to the world finals in St. Petersburg and won the 2nd place in the category Innovations, which is the best Slovenian ranking in the history of the competition. As the first Slovenian team, they have also received monetary help in the value of 50,000 $ from Imagine Cup Grants for implementing their idea in the future.

Registering your idea and your team until the 20th of January
Students can register their idea into one of the three categories until January 20th on the website www.imaginecup.si. The path to the world finals, which will take place in the American Seattle this year, leads through a victory in the Slovenian selection and the global internet semi-finals. The world finals will occur in July this year.

What have the two best ranking Slovenian teams from last year’s competition been doing in the past few months?

“In ADORA, we have dedicated the summer to finishing our solution and searching for our first clients. We are very happy that we are on the brink of our first live surgery that will be done with help of our ADORA assistant. Alongside the development, we are also intensively building the business part of our company together with the consultants from Venture Factory, business incubator of the University of Maribor,” said Kristjan Košič, ADORA team leader.

“Since the world finals, we in Beezinga have strengthened our team, joined Start:up Geek House in Maribor and collaborated with beekeepers to develop the first working prototype of our solution. We have also participated at the Web Summit conference in Dublin, where we mostly sought investors for our first production series,” told Jernej Gračner, Beezinga team member.
