3D printers, smart sensors, measuring devices, communication units, wearable electronics, industrial controllers… This is the kind of hardware created at the intersection of mechanics, electronics, software, and innovative thinking. And for everyone passionate about the world of physical products, something special is coming – the Hardware Meetup in Maribor!

Why a Hardware Meetup?

Because developing physical products requires more than just a good idea. It takes a combination of skills, access to the right equipment, understanding of materials, testing, iteration, and most importantly – a community of people who share experiences, tools, and advice.

The Hardware Meetup is designed to connect everyone developing or just entering the world of hardware products – whether you're working on IoT devices, sensors, robotics, measurement solutions, or prototyping. We’ll be sharing hands-on experiences, prototypes, challenges, and opportunities.

Who is the event for

  • Hardware startup teams looking for the right path from prototype to mass production.

  • Engineers and developers building physical devices that combine electronics and software.

  • R&D teams seeking inspiration, partners, or concrete solutions for development challenges.

  • Makers and IoT enthusiasts looking to exchange knowledge and expand their network.

  • Entrepreneurs thinking about launching a physical product and needing real-world insights into development.

Program

The event will feature short presentations of hardware projects, technologies, and lessons learned, followed by a Q&A and relaxed networking session.

18:00 – 19:30 Presentations of best practices and lessons from hardware development

The Challenge of Accurate Time Synchronization Using Bluetooth and LoRa

This presentation explores how to maintain time synchronization between IoT devices using Bluetooth and LoRa technologies. Precise timing is crucial for reliable data collection and efficient device coordination. We'll discuss the challenges of wireless time synchronization, compare Bluetooth and LoRa approaches, and present practical methods for improving accuracy—supported by real-world examples.

Microcontrollers – Challenges and Solutions for Smart Device Control

In this talk, Kristjan Berce from Bird Buddy will share the specific challenges they faced in choosing a microcontroller for their device. He'll explain why they opted for a lesser-known manufacturer, the benefits it brought, the drawbacks of such a decision, and the practical issues that arise when you take the road less traveled in the world of microcontrollers. A technical and strategic look into the dilemmas faced by a fast-growing IoT company building a complex product.
