Enolyse is winning over its first clients
Company Enolyse, based in Brežice, is working on the global market of laboratory instruments and measuring devices, more specifically in the niche of measurement technology for the wine industry. They are developing the innovative and several times recognized platform Enolyse, which offers winemakers a time- and cost-optimal control of wine fermentation. The beta version is already gaining its first test customers. The system, measuring the sugar content and temperature, is waiting for a breakthrough to the market of the neighbouring Austria, while target global markets also include other biggest wine countries – France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, USA, Argentina, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Chile.
“Internet of things” and cloud storage
The platform Enolyse, which is combining all the advantages of the “Internet of things” phenomenon and cloud computing, consists of three components. The smart sensor EnoMeter continuously measures the sugar content and temperature, and wirelessly sends the measured parameters to the central EnoStation unit. The latter transmits the data to the servers (the computer cloud), which the winemakers can access remotely with the mobile app EnoAPP at any time and from anywhere.
Originally a father’s idea
The idea for the development of an automated system for monitoring wine fermentation is originally connected to the family of Martin Blazinšek, company co-founder and CEO. His father had done wine analyses for nearby winemakers as an afternoon hobby, and wanted to have all devices connected in a joint measuring system, which would then be connected to the computer. Thus Martin and his classmate at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Jaka Ogorevc, took the challenge – initially as part of a study project homework. Last year, they invited their friend Primož Zajec to participate and together, they won the competition Start:Cloud 2013 with an idea and an MVP.
An excellent team of friends
The founding members of the start-up Enolyse – Martin Blazinšek, executive director and head of web development, Jaka Ogorevc, finance executive and research manager, and Primož Zajec, technical manager, have been friends for a number of years. They went to the same high school and later on applied to the same faculty, where they were also roommates. The core team is excellent and has a lot of potential – something that was also recognised by the respected start-up accelerator and venture capital fund LAUNCHub, which invested 50 thousand euros into a company that hadn’t even had a developed product yet, in order to help them finish development and start market testing. The core of the company has so far remained Slovenian, and intellectual property rights are also staying in the company.
Dream goal – Napa Valley
The company currently has six full-time employees and is planning on being able to have 15 full-time employees in the span of the next two years. They are anticipating the possibility of equity participation in the company for key staff members. Appropriately to their youth and energy, they are large supporters of a relaxed and creative working environment, but with clearly defined duties and responsibilities. They approach business partners in the same way. They are planning offices outside Slovenia in the neighbouring Austria, while the final dream goal would be the American wine Mecca, Napa Valley.
Awards for a revolutionary solution
The incredible market potential and innovativeness of the Enolyse platform, revolutionizing the demanding analytical procedures in wine production, are also confirmed by awards that the company, founded last autumn, obtained in a short time since its establishment:
